Jim Kerr has posted another incredibly interesting diary over on the official Simple Minds website. Apparently all the drum and bass tracks have been laid and he feels that the smoothness of the recording sessions are reminiscent of the New Gold Dream sessions. He seems very upbeat about the quality of the music they are making. Read on for the full entry.... |

First of a new series! We'll scour the net and bring you a live video from somewhere which we think is great and which you'll hopefully enjoy. First up, New Gold Dream. It's one of our favourite versions of the song as it really rocks. Charlie Burchill's guitar work is superb and Jim Kerr is in fine voice. The video really gets across the fantastic atmosphere that you get in a Simple Minds gig. Read on to watch the clip.... |

There is no shortage of information flowing from the bowels of Rockfield Studios at the moment and that's great news for us as fans. It gives us an insight into the process of creating a Simple Minds album and adds palpably to the whole anticipation. It's great that both Jim Kerr and Jez Coad are interesting writers. Jim has a more relaxed style whereas Jez just can't hold his excitement back. The first entry from Jim Kerr is entitled Stop Mother! and can be found here.
The second entry is by Jez Coad and is another in his ongoing series of Studio Notes which you can read here. Both articles are reproduced in full so read on if you can't be bothered jumping off elsewhere...... |

Jez Coad produced the Simple Minds album Black and White. He's currently working with Simple Minds at Rockfield Studios and has posted an interesting diary entry over on the Simple Minds website. He mentions using every 'weird and wacky guitar effect known to man' and tells us that there is a lot of experimentation going on in the studio, that anything appearing to be generic gets thrown out. The full diary entry is reproduced in full so read on for more.... |

If there is one thing you can't say about Simple Minds over the years it's that they have stayed the same. They've always been evolving, never really coming full circle. More than any other band Simple Minds split their fans into the era in which they enjoyed their music most. For some it's the early experimental years with the likes of Empires and Dance and Sons and Fascination. For other's it's the gently emotive New Gold Dream. Some prefer them when they hit the stadiums and wrote the big anthems such as Alive and Kicking and Waterfront. |

Let's face it, we're not all cut out to be rock stars. Jim Kerr has now been doing it for 30 years which makes him nothing other than a professional rock star. In homage to the great man, and in order to teach the youth of today how to pose like proper rock stars we present some of Jim's finest posing moments. If you can't do it like Jim, don't do it at all.... |
